IUMA: Ken Morris

something has gone horribly wrong 8-p

Chicago-based Ken Morris has been called "a clear voice with heart", but it's heart with an edge! Ken has been entertaining audiences in the Chicago area for over 20 years with his wit, unique intricate fingerpicking guitar style and soulful voice. Ken has mixed feelings about the success of his plan to keep a low profile in the loathsome music industry, but Plan B is bound to work!

Despite his increasingly less noticeable obscurity, Ken is proud and happy these days to be the Mighty Progenitor of Heroes for Sale mastermind (and now Mighty Progenitor himself) Chris Morris and to discover that the almost 20 years he and his beautiful, talented and understanding wife Joanie have shared as Musicians in Love have become even more anomalous and delightful. Ken thanks Joanie, Chris and Nicky and Josephine; Steve; Mom; Glenn and Jeanette and Beth; Renee and Keith and all of his brothers and sisters; Ivan and Bess, and all the Pams, Marys, Ricks, Jims, Maurices (no, there's only one Maurice), and a very, very long etc... Thank you, all of you!

Stay tuned for news on the forthcoming CD!

About the songs: "For Josie" stands as one of Ken's prettiest instrumental pieces and is dedicated to Josephine Morris. Early versions of the song appeared on Ken and Joanie's CD Music from William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.

"Jennifer" is one of Ken's favorite songs by Letters to Cleo. He recorded this version for a tribute CD, Because of You - A Tribute to Kay Hanley. For more details, check the Kay Hanley Message Board on her official site (www.kayhanley.com) or buy the original version by Letters to Cleo (www.letterstocleo.net)

"Mama(Don't Get Me Wrong)" is one of Ken's best-known songs and was recorded a LONG time ago. It features Mark O'Connor's guitar pyrotechnics and Les Dominick's fierce drumming.

"II Sirius" is a bit of roboto fun with Ken displaying his fretboard skills on his beloved strat. This one isn't performed live very often, but once in a while when that robot mood strikes.

Enjoy and come back - there's more to come! Leave a comment and let Ken know how you think Plan B is going so far...

Good effort. You can tell Ken has some real talent when he plays guitar. I thought II Sirius was on the annoying side of being corny.

Subject: Great music from an underappreciated artist!
Why Ken Morris isn't famous is something I've never been able to figure out. I've seen him live many times over the years and he's a fantastic guitarist and songwriter!
The songs here are a nice representation of his incredible range. "For Josie" is my favorite, but "Mama Don't Get Me Wrong" is also a really powerful song with great lyrics. It's great that the Internet Archive has added the IUMA collection, so that great music like this has a chance to be heard again!!
